Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) has been formed in 17 October 1982 to encourage debate movement in University of Dhaka as well as the whole country. The main objectives of DUDS are to establish a logical society and democratic culture in Bangladesh. However, there were debate in University of Dhaka before 1982 but those were not well organized.
Mahfuz Anam, editor of the Daily Star and professor Dr. Syed Monzurul Islam represented our country in international debate in 1960.
1988 is the year when students of our University take the responsibilities to organize DUDS form our respected teachers.
Niamot Elahi was the first President of Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) form then we are trying to develop ourselves as well as our nation by debate practice.
We have participated international debate in 1993, 1994, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005.
We organize three-debate session in every week, one for bangla on Thursday, one for English debate on Monday and one for study circle on Saturday.
WE have some yearly programme like workshop, inter Hall inter Department (ENGLISH AND BENGALI) debate ,a publication, an electoral debate (which could be role model for our national election). Besides Dhaka university Debating Society have been arranged many national & international debate completions.
In these ways, we are trying to fulfill our objectives.
